옆자리 / 박목월


과히 오래

지체한 것도 아닌데

금방 옆자리가

비어버린다

사람이 자리를 떠버리면

금방 옆자리는

싸늘하게 허전하다

지금까지

열중해서 눈알을 번들거리며

상담을 늘어놓던

그들이 돌아간

저편 출입문으로

줄을 잇다시피 손님들이

들어오지만

나의 옆자리는

좀처럼 메꾸어지지 않고

빈 찻잔만

덩그렇게 놓였다

이제 내가 일어날 차례다

쉴만큼 쉬었으니

만일 내가 일어나 가버리면

빈 자리 옆에

빈자리가 생긴다

그러나 쉴만큼 쉬었으니

자리에서 일어나야 한다

밖에 나오니

어깨를 스채며

사람들이 붐비지만

가버린 자는 가버리고

그들 사이가

이상하게

허전하다
